IMHO we now too little about the war to draw conclusions, there are too many secrets and things untold.
anyway even if usa made great mistakes, they had a lot of political limitations.
first of all, they couldn't engage the enemy closer, they couldn't afford heavy losses, in fact they had anyway huge contestation from their own citizens.
they couldn't either cause too heavy losses to vietnamese civilians (they were there "to defend them from communism" not to kill them), so heavy area bombings weren't possible. they couldn't invade north vietnam unless to risk a 3rd ww. their biggest mistake was to support south vietnam dictatures, which were hated by the population who prefered communists to them. that's, in my opinion, why they loose the war. they had to fight a entire people instead of a simple guerrilla movement, even if supported by foeign powers.

TET did very little to change our resolve or win any major strategic or tactical victory. where it hit us hardest was where the American Public was weakest. Similarly, do not think for a moment if Iran Nukes Iraq, that we would pull out of there and public opinion would turn against the war. But conversely, if Iran invaded conventionally, it would justify everything Bush has said against Iran, and a draft would be seen as a noble cause.

well, no wonder you won...
aviation + navy + heli + modern equipment vs poorly armed guerrilla
that was not really possible to loose battles

You tell that to the Lion of Pansjir, he had all of the Russian Equivalent at the time of said listed stuff and WON with much fewer forces. Granted he was slightly better supplied, but overall he was way better organized. Furthermore, he was born the same day and year as my dad.

Do you have any idea how funny that sounds? it does. it sounds hilarious. Its like saying, Soon, The Ghost of Elivis will rise from the dead and lead an army of undead rock stars to destroy the governments of the UNITED STATES AND CANADA!

huh? uh no, Kurdistan is great and I wish them their own nation, but I don't think it has to come with great expense to Iran Iraq or Turkey. surely a deal can be met in some ways. Same way I think Tampering with either Israel or Iran is a recipe for destruction.
